Hosting this summer? Skip the soda. An agua fresca bar looks impressive, costs pennies a glass, and basically runs itself. Here’s how to build one.
1. Pick 3–4 flavors
Go for a mix of colors and moods:
- Hibiscus Guava — deep pink, tart-sweet, the showpiece
- Lime & Chia — pale green and thirst-quenching
- Horchata — creamy, cinnamon, the crowd favorite
- Marzipan — nutty and a little unexpected
Each is just 1 tablespoon per cup, so a single bag pours dozens of glasses.
2. Batch them ahead
- Make each flavor in its own clear pitcher — a heaping ¼ cup of powder per liter of cold water.
- Stir, then let the fruit-and-chia flavors rest a few minutes so the chia blooms.
- Chill until guests arrive.
3. Set the garnish tray
- Lime and orange wheels, fresh mint, cucumber ribbons
- A big bowl of ice and some fun glasses
- Tajín or chamoy for rimming
4. Add a spiked corner (optional)
Set out blanco tequila, mezcal, and sparkling water so adults can build their own. Hibiscus Guava + tequila + lime makes an easy jamaica paloma; Lime & Chia + mezcal + soda is a bright, herbal cooler.
Tip
Label each pitcher with a little card — half the fun is guests discovering a flavor they’ve never tried.
